Is there a lake monster living in the waters of Raystown Lake in Pennsylvania ? The creature known as Raystown Ray is said to reside in Huntingdon county’s Raystown lake. There have been many reports of sightings over the years and various photo’s taken of the lake monster many showing a large shadowy figure just below the surface of the lake. The creature has been dubbed by many as Pennsylvania’s Loch Ness Monster. Here is the most interesting photo of Raystown Ray to date.

But multiple reports and sighting and media interest in the creature caused the Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau to put out a press release in April of 2006. Here is the original press release ….

For decades there have been many sightings of a creature in Huntingdon County’s Raystown Lake. Old photos show large shadowy figures just below the surface, boaters describing sudden water turbulence and strange appearances of a large water creature, Raystown Ray.”We’ve known it’s been in there a while now,” admitted Managing Director of Raystown Lake Dwight Beall when he was asked his thoughts on this astonishing discovery. “It’s a private creature, but it comes out around this time of year. Call it Raystown’s own Punxatawny Phil.” Call it what you will, but this is no ground hog swimming in the water. It seems that our favorite Pennsylvania lake may now have a mascot.
When asked his professional opinion, Jeff Krause, Wildlife Biologist at Raystown Lake submitted the following statement in writing: “I believe it must be a vegetarian. We have not seen any evidence of this animal taking fish, geese, otters, or ducks. So I would suggest that our swimmers and boaters are very safe. It appears this animal’s habits are similar to Manatees, which are completely herbivorous and gentle. The increase of weed beds around the lake is probably providing more food in the shallows for herbivores and that would increase sightings.” Krause concluded with, “Even if a visitor does not get a chance to see ‘Ray’ while at the lake, there is an excellent chance to see nesting Bald Eagles and recently re-introduced Osprey and River Otters, which were not present just a few years ago.”
It is a wonder how “Ray” has managed to stay submersed with nearly 2 million visitors frequenting the lake each year to fulfill their boating and other recreational activity needs. According to Raystown Lake staff, the lake spans about 30 miles and contains 8,300 acres of water. With depths of the lake being over 185 feet deep, the lake remains over 100 feet deep at Seven Points, which is 10 miles upstream from the dam. With numerous coves, submerged timber, and other structures there is plenty of room for “Ray” to hide.

Sightings of the Raystown Lake monster still continue to be reported. Although disputed as pure myth and legend by some many believe what they have seen to be a yet unidentified creature in the lake.

Adam Davies is once again heading an expedition to Sumatra in search of the Orang-Pendek. This time Davies will be joining the crew of Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot. Here is a statement from Mr Davies ….

On 12th May, I will be departing for Sumatra again, looking for more evidence of the Orang-Pendek, for the 7th time! I will return to my home in Manchester on 3rd June.

You can see previous information on my work on this wonderful creature in Edge Science Magazine issue 7, entitled ‘New Primate Species in Sumatra’. By way of a specific update on the last CFZ 2011 expedition which I led, the hair analysis, being conducted amongst others by Professors Bryan Sykes, Todd Disotell and by Lars Thomas, is still ongoing, and as yet no conclusions have been reached. I do remain grateful for the extensive analysis they are conducting. As ever the key objective from my point of view is to extract D.N.A. from these hairs.

This time, I will be part of the `Finding Bigfoot` crew. I am under contract for the show, so I am not allowed to reveal any details, but I can tell you that we will be conducting comprehensive field research, which involves a dedicated jungle excursion.

“Possible photo of Alaska’s Iliamna Lake Monster”

Some believe the creature in Lake Iliamna may be similar to other lake monsters like Ogopogo from Lake Okanogan or Nessie from Loch Ness although disputed by some because descriptions of illie don’t seem to match the serpent like descriptions of these other lake monsters. Some believe this creature may possibly be a large White Sturgeon a theory put forth by biologist Jeremy Wade from the popular Animal Planet show “River Monsters”.

A new theory has now been put forth by scientist that this creature and some other lake monsters in the region may actually be sleeper sharks. Sharks in Loch Ness has been a long standing hypothesis for explaining the creature seen there but the suggestion of them possibly being sleeper sharks is a new twist. These sharks can exceed 20 feet in length and weigh upwards of 4 tons and could possibly use these lakes as a food source. The abundance of salmon in both lake Iliamna and Loch Ness could possibly lure in these sharks. There are still many unknowns about these creature and some people already discount this theory all together but expeditions are planned to both Lake Iliamna and Loch Ness this year and in 2013 to try and get video of these sharks in the lakes or of the lake monsters themselves.

Finding Bigfoot hits Vermont as it continues its search for Bigfoot. The Finding Bigfoot team will be in Rutland,Vermont to film an episode for Finding Bigfoot Season 3. Bigfoot sightings have been reported all around New England for hundreds of years now but some recent sightings have brought attention to Vermont.

Some of the more recent Bigfoot sightings in the area include a Bigfoot being spotted at a local golf course in the 1970’s. Also Frank Siecienski believes he had a Bigfoot near his home two years ago and was able to catch it on a trail camera. Siecienski says he found out from researchers that his tape is of a female Sasquatch with its young underneath it.

Whether you believe the evidence collected is reality or just a ruse, they’ll have an interested audience Saturday at a town hall meeting.  The TV network Animal Planet will bring its show Finding Bigfoot to Rutland. Producers will pick stories feature on the show. Few details about the network’s plans have been released, but our sources say about 100 people will show up, and three stories will be chosen. This is big news for Sasquatch fans all around Vermont !

The stars of a popular cable show are combing the woods around Houghton Lake, Mich., for signs of the the giant bipedal ape-man known as Bigfoot. Animal Planet’s show “Finding Bigfoot” is filming in the area and drew 350 people to an April 5 town meeting held to gather clues about the whereabouts of the elusive cryptid, according to the Detroit News.

Phil Shaw, a member of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization told the News that some of those who showed up for the meeting shared stories of personal encounters.

“My favorite was from a lady who lives south of Houghton Lake that actually had been able to record ‘whoop howls’ from a bigfoot,” he said. “They only howl on a limited basis, so that was very rare and impressive.”

Shaw’s organization has records of around 140 Michigan Bigfoot sightings since 1910 — including a November 2011 report by a hunter who heard “resonant vocalizations and bipedal movement” while camping in Roscommon County.

“Michigan has been a hotspot for sightings since the 1960s, especially areas like Sister Lake and Monroe, where there were reports of very aggressive creatures and people being attacked,” said Loren Coleman of the International Cryptozoological Museum in Portland, Maine.

Coleman said the high number of sightings makes sense because of Michigan’s extensive wilderness.

“It’s in the boreal forest, the heavily tree-covered area that goes from the Pacific Northwest across the U.S.-Canada border to Maine, but it has more sightings than other places because there are more people,” he said. “You need people to see Bigfoot and Michigan has a higher population than, say, the Dakotas.”

The Houghton Lake episode of Finding Bigfoot will air on Animal Planet this summer.

With another strong season under its belt Finding Bigfoot has become one of Animal Planets top three performing series of all time. The second season of Finding Bigfoot averaged more then 1.3 million P2+ viewers which was up 15% over season one. Episodes “Buckeye Bigfoot” and “Baby Bigfoot” each brought in 1.6 million viewers respectively and now rank as the two most watched episodes of the series ever.

Animal planet has already ordered additional episodes of the show and Finding Bigfoot Season 3 is slated to air later this year. During season 3 of the show the Finding Bigfoot team for the first time be going international with two episodes of the season being shot internationally. “Lake Bala”

In the depths of Lake Bala in North Wales there is believed to be a monster lurking. Much like Nessie in Scotland’s Loch Ness or Champ in Vermont’s Lake Champlain Lake Bala has its own lake monster know as “Teggie“. Although now as well known as some other lake monsters Teggie and Lake Bala are no less intriguing. The name “Teggie” is taken from Llyn Tegid which is the Welsh name of the lake.

Sightings of the creature began around the 1920’s and the legend has continued to grow. Reports have claimed that the creature resembles a crocodile or a creature similar to a plesiosaur and is at least 8 feet in length. There was also a recorded report of a large creature breaking the waters surface and tossing a windsurfer out of the water to one side with ease of swatting a fly. One local legend believes the monster is Pontrhydfendigaid witch, Mari Berllan Biter who is said to be able to transform info various forms and shapes.

There is also a theory believed by some about a secret program during the First World War run by the British military involving seals being released into the lake. These seals were to be trained to carry mines strapped to them while swimming to a selected target with in the lake. Then when taken outside the lake they could be used to carry live mines into German warships. But during the program a number of seals escaped and soon after the program was scrapped and the military exited the seals were left behind. And Teggie is possibly descendents of these seals. Although many local inhabitants if the area don’t buy into it.

Teggie being much more camera shy then some of her fellow lake monsters has made for a lesser known cryptid. But the sightings and stories are just as interesting and exciting like so many other lake monsters the mystery continues.

we never really got a good look but at first we saw what we thought was a person walking across the canyon but after looking at it for a second it looked more and more not human “
