Animal Planet’s “Monster Week” includes a highly anticipated special on the Bigfoot-like creature is known as the Yeti. The show called “Yeti or Not” follows Dr. VDr. Mark Evans across the Himalayas on the search for the mythical cryptid.
Evans comes across some interesting stories of Yeti sightings and some unusual samples that are perfect for DNA testing. He hopes to prove his theory that either the Yeti is a) a hybrid bear species; b) a human ancestor that somehow defied extinction; or c) both, existing simultaneously.
Evans admits that as a scientist he considers himself a skeptic but he says he is hopeful that he is a healthy intelligent skeptic using his toolbox of science. He says he hopes to influence other scientists many of which are smarter to use their skills and experience to try and find answers about the existence or not of Yeti. The show taps into a surprising amount of science and Evans said that viewers can expect many surprises from the special. Be sure to check out the Yeti or Not premiere Sunday, May 29, from 9-11 PM (ET/PT) on Animal Planet.
In YETI OR NOT, Dr. Mark Evans, a veterinarian and explorer, is on a mission to sift fact from folklore and distill the plausible from the possible as he searches for a rational explanation for the mysterious Himalayan biped known as the Yeti. Evan’s globe-spanning investigation evaluates mysterious footprints, Yeti-hunting Nazis and real-life ‘hobbits.’ He travels to Nepal’s wild Tibetan frontier in search of new, untested remains believed to be from Yetis. Will the DNA from these and other samples finally solve the world’s most intriguing zoological puzzle? Can science play a role in solving this mystery?
